Cultural day with a focus on Islam
On Friday 9th January 2026, children at Gargrave CE (VC) Primary School took part in a cultural day with a particular focus on Islam. Yesmien Bagh Ali and Amanda, from Amaali led the day starting with a whole school worship on what it means to be a Muslim in Britain today, especially as the holy festival Ramadan is approaching. The major festival occurs at its conclusion, known as Eid al-Fitr, or the “Festival of the Breaking of the Fast”.
Children then took part in workshops where they were able to look at and try on traditional clothing, make coconut and date balls, as well as create special boxes to their tasty treats home. Children asked many questions of Yesmien to delve further into her experiences, as well as those of Muslims around the world.
